Current Opportunities - Financial Aid for College - Scholarships - Conferences . . . 

                Scholarships, listed by due dates, are for Seniors unless otherwise noted.

Tips for Seniors:Submit the FAFSA if you haven’t already done so.  To apply for most financial aid, you must submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on line at All Seniors should apply for this even if they think they will not qualify.  Parents need to have they taxes completed to fill in this application.  Applications accepted Jan1 2008 through June30, 2008.  Should apply as soon as possible. Tips for Juniors:Register and study for your college entrance exam.  ACT registration at         You’ll need to enter Provo High’s code, which is  450-325.   Register by March 7 cost $35.00, or late registration by March 21 cost $55.00, for the April 12 ACT test.   On line study help at and Juniors should strongly consider taking this prep course and the April 12 ACT.

 

Practice ACT test March 22 8:00 am at PHS $5.00 payable in the Business office.  Help sessions for the April 12 ACT test will begin March 24-April 3/ session A 3:00-5:00 Mon-Thur Session B 6:00-8:00 pm.  Prep course costs $65.00 payable in the Business office.

 

Mar 9   GOT MILK? - Judging of senior nominees will be based on academic performance, athletic excellence, leadership, and community service.  25 winners will each receive a $7500 scholarship from Milk, and an opportunity to b pictured in a Milk Mustache ad.  Details and an application at

Mar 10 THE UTAH CHAPTER OF THE SOCIETY OF CHARTERED PROPERTY  CASUALTY UNDERWRITERS - will provide three $1,000 scholarships to seniors who will be majoring in business, finance or insurance in Fall 2007.  An application can be down loaded at

Mar 14 THE ASPEN INSTITUTE - (Summer camp for Juniors) is an international nonprofit dedicated to open-minded dialogue.  Remarkable speakers present topics ranging from world health crises to the role of literature in society.  Some of last years presenters were Alan Greenspan, Sandra Day O’Connor, and Colin Powell.  A 5-day all-expense paid scholarship to Aspen, Colorado, June 29 - July 4, 2008.  Juniors taking AP or IB classes, GPA 3.5, have taken PSAT or ACT, US citizen/permanent resident, demonstrated leadership.  More information and applications at

Mar 15 YOUTH LINC - YOUNG HUMANITARIAN AWARD - (Service Scholarship) The award will recognize Utah high school and undergraduate college students who excel at giving back to their communities.  One $5000 award and four $1000 awards. Mar 17 ENGINEERING STATE AT UTAH STATE UNIVERSITY - (Summer camp) for  Juniors with a strong interest in math, science, or technology.  On USU campus for a week in June 9-12, 2008.  More information and applications are in the College/Career Center or at www.engineering.usu.edu/htm/e-state 

 


Mar 15 KOHL’S KIDS WHO CARE (Service) is a scholarship program to reward those 6 to 18, for their community service.  Winners will receive from a $50 Kohl’s gift card, $1,000 to 10 national $5,000 scholarships.   More information and application at http://www.kohlscorporation.com/CommunityRelations/scholarship/index.asp

 

Mar 15 Ken Garff Key to Success - High school seniors that have been awarded a Ken Garff Key to success card.  Applications are in the college/career center.

 

Mar 15  SEMI Foundation and the SEMI Pacific Northwest Steering Committee (Math and Science Scholarship) are excited to off three $2000 scholarships to high school seniors planning to attend college during 2008-2009. 3.0 or better GPA, pursuing a major such as, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or an Education degree with a focus on teaching math or science. Mar 21 UTAH SOCIETY OF PROFESSIONAL ENGINEERS - $1,000 scholarship for a senior  planning an engineer career.  Requirements and application at http://www.uspeonline.com/

 

Mar 23 UTAH STATE OFFICE OF EDUCATION - ROBERT C BYRD (Academic Scholarship) - Purpose is to promote student excellence and achievement and recognize exceptionally able students who show promise of continued excellence. Must have a composite ACT of 25 or high and GPA of 3.7 or higher.  Must have been accepted at an institution of higher education.  $1500 scholarships are awarded based on merit for the first year of study at an institution of higher education.  May be renewed for up to a total of four years. Mar 28 T.H. BELL TEACHING INCENTIVE LOAN (Future Educator Scholarhip) The teaching loan program consists of a waiver (of tuition and fees at Utah public institution, and $995 for private institutions) to be used for a period not to exceed eight semesters. If for some reason recipient does not complete an education program and teach in a Utah public school, repayment of funds is required. Mar 28 Days of ‘47 Essay Contest - 750 word essay written of the theme/ Still Pioneering Together.  Applications in the college/career center.  Applications and essays must be received in SLC no later than March 28, 2008.

 

Mar 30 NATURE HIGH SUMMER CAMP is co-sponsored by Snow College.  Held at the Great Basin Environmental Education Center in Ephraim Canyon, July 16-21.  Camp’s focus is understanding the challenges of land use and the role of natural resource professionals in the community.  Open to all high school age students.  $50 registration fee, some scholarships available.  More information from Cindy Ledbetter at (801) 877-4377 or    Applications in College/Career Center. 

 

Mar 31 THE UTAH ASSOCIATION OF INDEPENDENT INSURANCE AGENTS (UAIIA) AND THE PROPERTY CASUALTY UNDERWRITERS SOCIETY, UTAH CHAPTER (CPCU) - three $1,000 scholarships to Utah seniors who have maintained at least a 3.0 GPA and are active in extra-curricular activities through school, church, community or work.  One scholarship awarded to a student pursuing an insurance career, the others to a students  pursuing insurance or business degrees. http://www.uaiia.org/_private/scholarship.htm

 

Mar 31  COLLEGE OF EASTERN UTAH HIGH SCHOOL ADVENTURE EXPEDITIONS June 9-13, 2008 Price, Utah.  One $1000 full tuition and others will be offered credit toward the camp.  Applications in the college/career center.  Notified April 15, 2008.

 

Mar 31 National Federation of the Blind - students who are blind or visually impaired.  Scholarships range from $3000 to @12000 applications are available online www.nfb.org/nfb/Default.asp

Apr 1   BOYS STATE - AMERICAN LEGION - (Summer camp forJunior boys) with leadership, good character, citizen of the United States. Judged on written application and oral interview.  One week conference in  June 9-13,   2008 at Weber State University. Apr 1   SONS OF UTAH PIONEERS - TOMORROW’S PIONEERS - for High School Seniors who have overcome significant adversity to attain academic success.  The applicant must have exemplified through specific acts in their lives the ideals and character traits of true pioneers of faith, courage endurance, and family values.  Must have recommendation from teacher, counselor, or principal.

 

Apr 1   UTAH COMMUNITY CREDIT UNION - $500 scholarship to one PHS senior with a strong work ethic, GPA of at least 3.0, community service, club/group involvement, financial need, and credit union membership.   Applications are now online at http://www.ulcu.com/consumer/scholarship/main.asp.  Be sure to click on the Bulldog.  This is a wonderful new website designed to also teach and be a resource for financial literacy skills.

 

Apr 10 UTAH SPORTS HALL OF FAME FOUNDATION (OLD TIME ATHLETES  ASSOCIATION) - PAUL REAM - Each high school in Utah may nominate one boy, one  girl, & one Native American (if applicable)  for scholarship consideration.  Judging will be based on academic scholarship, personal character,  financial need, leadership qualities and interest, and  involvement in athletic activities.  Eight $2,000 scholarships. www.pineview.org/guidance/UHFF.PDF

 

Apr 10 PTSA "MOST IMPROVED SENIOR" SCHOLARSHIP - This year two $500 scholarships will be awarded to students who have shown the greatest improvement from previous years in academic classes.  Must be used one year following graduation. Deferral may be negotiated.  

 

Apr 22 2007 STUDENT-VIEW SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM - Seniors, log on to http://www.student-view.com/2007_scholarship2.html  and complete a 15-20 minute application survey about colleges in your area.  Scholarships from $500 to $3,000 will be awarded via a random drawing of all completed applications.  Winner will be announced in May

 

Apr 19 THE JIFFY LUBE “YOUR TURN BEHIND THE WHEEL” - scholarship offered only to those students attending drive education class during this school year. 

            THE JIFFY LUBE “TEEN DRIVER” SCHOLARS - offered to all other eligible licensed teen drivers.

A statewide scholarship for $3,500 and 3 regional $1,000 scholarship will be awarded in each category.

 

April 30 UNITY AWARDS - The Alliance for Unity is a group of Utah civic, religious and business leaders committed to strengthening and unifying our communities.   The Alliance provides up to forty scholarships of $2,000 each  graduating seniors in Utah with financial need.  Special consideration to students who meet the following criteria: Parent income less that $30,000,   GPA minimum 2.5, Consistent after-school work history, and Evidence of good citizenship as expressed in the Alliance’s mission statement (see web site )   Application at http://www.rtnda.org/pages/media_items/rtndaunity-awards95.php April 1 is the deadline for receipt of applications

 

Apr 30 Utah Trappers Association Scholarhsip - Senior that exemplifies conservation and the love of the outdoors. 500 word essay and letters of recommendation.  Applications online and in the college/career center.
